Our photos are taken outdoors in direct sun light. Moso is a fast grower that you can expect to reach 70 feet or more in height in USDA 7 and further south, and about 30 to 35 feet tall in Zone 6. The color and darkness of each piece varies due to the time of harvesting, the sun curing and the flaming process. The diameter of a pole will normally decrease from bottom to top by app. We keep some of the best pups from each litter to develop the breed, and place the rest as pets only, (spay/neuter), at only 2/3rds. This breed has been in development for over a decade and will take several more years to complete. We have a large supply of poles ranging from diameters of 2" - 5" and lengths of 1' - 8'.Įvery piece of bamboo is different. The Giant Maso is a new developing breed (NOT JUST A 50/50 CROSS), being bred at Thunderheart Farm. The bamboo is grown and processed in the US. The poles can be used indoor or outdoor for numerous applications ranging from beautiful indoor displays to finished furniture outdoor tiki bars to decorative fencing bird houses to flower planters and hundreds of other uses. Furthermore, the Moso bamboo species is not even recognised as food by the panda bears. These poles are Moso bamboo that are sun cured and then hand flamed to create the unique color and glossy finish. Thus they live far away from the areas where the giant Moso bamboo species, used to produce bamboo products, grows. ![]() Some of the most famous groves of Moso are in Anderson, SC and Avery Island, LA. wide (20 cm), mature to yellow-green, then almost orange-green. Deep green at first, the culms, up to 8 in. I’ve traveled all over the southeast just to visit and walk some of the well known Moso groves. Noted for its incredible beauty and elegance, Phyllostachys edulis (Moso Bamboo) is a remarkable evergreen bamboo with huge, upright, very thick, gray-green canes surmounted by plumes of small, pale green leaves. It’s the largest cold hardy bamboo and just has a look distinct from anything else.
